Lille
Type:  LumiSource sponsored project
Duration: 14 weeks
Focus: furniture design, design for small shipping
Furniture crafted for the urban apartment and a modern lifestyle.
Affordable urban apartments are small, and the young adults who live there are looking for furniture to make the most out of their living space. This project proposes an easy-to-assemble accent chair designed to combine space-saving solutions with a sleek, contemporary design.
In a small space, footprint matters.
Apartment dwellers need small-scale furniture that can be moved around a room and yet does not sacrifice comfort or style.
Tones and textures inspiration.
Inspiration was taken from the attitude of  today's working girl as well as historically industrial cities. Tones and textures are soft, but strong and serious.
Simple comfort, bold look.
Lille uses soft fabric, light wood, and a reclined, low-back profile to provide users with a relaxed seating solution while maintaining an edge with its bent metal legs.
Compact shipping.
Lille was designed with compact shipping in mind. When disassembled, Lille lays flat in a small box which reduces the cost of shipping and makes it a more affordable option for young apartment dwellers.
Easy assembly.
With a limited number of components and simple joinery methods, users can easily assemble this chair in their small space.
Mock up.
This 1:4 scale mock up features a laser cut seat and back, 3D printed legs, and foam and fabric cushions.
